When I heard that the screenwriter of +1 had a new film out there I was elated. Bill Gullo‘s sci-fi/thriller really knocked it out of the park. It was incredibly unique and and completely unpredictable. A true genre fan’s dream. So when I had the chance to view The Quitter, I was immediately interested on what Gullo would churn out next. Liz’s Review: ‘I AM ELEVEN’ is universally charming.
When I was 11, I was dancing 5 days a week, going to girl scouts and slumber parties. Life was pretty incredible. I had not a worry in the world then. I did what I wanted, wore what I wanted, (when not in school uniform), loved The New Kids on The Block, and scrunchies. Everyday I came home from school and ate two pieces of American cheese folded into fourths. I was kind of peculiar, graceful yet awkward, bright and precocious, but I had a ton of friends and loved every day I was alive. Australian documentarian, Genevieve Bailey, recalls being just as happy at age 11. As an adult, she wondered if that was the case for kids today. Taking time off to travel, she decided that along here journey she would interview kids that were 11 and find out if they were as happy as we remembered being then. I AM ELEVEN proves to be a beautiful phenomenon and on the heels of the release of Richard Linklater’s BOYHOOD, the timing could not be more perfect. Read More →

Liz’s Review: ‘Rocks In My Pockets’ – The extraordinary weight of sadness and madness.
Mental illness is a hot button issue these days. We pretend to address it but if we’re being honest, we continue to sweep it under the rug. In a brand new film by writer/director Signe Baumane, we follow the true story of her familial heritage, specifically with undiagnosed bouts of severe depression. Read More →
New Poster: ‘Men, Women & Children’ From Director Jason Reitman
MEN, WOMEN & CHILDREN follows the story of a group of high school teenagers and their parents as they attempt to navigate the many ways the internet has changed their relationships, their communication, their self-image, and their love lives. The film attempts to stare down social issues such as video game culture, anorexia, infidelity, fame hunting, and the proliferation of illicit material on the internet. As each character and each relationship is tested, we are shown the variety of roads people choose – some tragic, some hopeful – as it becomes clear that no one is immune to this enormous social change that has come through our phones, our tablets, and our computers. Liz’s Review: ‘And Uneasy Lies The Mind’ … the first feature shot entirely on an iPhone.
Making a film is expensive. But it doesn’t have to be. The new film And Uneasy Lies The Mind is the very first of its kind; shot entirely on an iPhone. The story revolves around a young movie star named Peter. For his birthday and he aims to celebrate in his new ski resort mansion with expectant wife, Julie, and their best couple friends, Jack and Lauren. The day starts off all good and well until drugs and alcohol are introduced and the night begins to go haywire. Jealousy and secrets lead to misguided confessions and confusion. We’re not quite sure what is reality and what is insanity in this brand new psychological thriller. Read More →
Liz’s Review: ‘As Above, So Below’
Last year I toured the Catacombs of Paris. If you are at all claustrophobic, this may not be the tour for you. They are very deep beneath the streets of Paris and not for the faint of heart. If you don’t know, they are the resting place for over 6 million bodies; skeletal remains. Check out a few pics from my trip. Read More →

Let’s Do The Time Warp Again! Happy Anniversary ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ (a day late but never a boa short)
Happy 29th Anniversary of the UK theatrical release of this cult classic. Rocky Horror Picture Show was sort of a flop by today’s standards, but once midnight screenings began in NYC, there was no stopping this raucous and infectious work of madness.
Originally a stage play, it hopped from stage to screen with Richard O’Brien’s script. It was meant to be a tribute to the science fiction and B horror movies of the late 1930s through early 1970s. The costumes are now iconic and shadow casts around the county work painstakingly to imitate them. It’s been said that the film’s costumes were a big influence on the punk music scene with it’s ripped fishnets, dyed hair, and glitter makeup. Rocky Horror is the right balance of shock and camp. It’s difficult not to sing along and no matter if you’re a die hard fan or not, you’ve been hearing quotes from this movie for ages. And speaking of quotes, when attending a midnight screening, the audience is encouraged, dare I say, required to quote along. It’s an immersive experience to say the least.

Kevin Smith’s new horror ‘TUSK’
Kevin Smith told the world that he was not planning on directing any more films. Well, it seems that he is a liar, liar, pants on fire. Frankly, I’m so okay with that. Liz’s ‘Thanksgiving’ Review: Let’s Talk Turkey and Truth
Over the holiday weekend, I went to a typical NYC rooftop party. The company was comprised mostly of young lawyers and investment bankers in their mid to late twenties. When one girl complained about the Lower East Side becoming irrelevant, I was perplexed. ” Why?” (an audible Freudian slip). She explained, “Every five feet, they’re are strollers and children! It’s so obnoxious!” I have to say I was genuinely offended. At 34 and kids on the brain, I was angry. Was I ever like this at parties?! Truth is, I probably was. Cue the ashamed shoulder slump and face palm. Read More →
New Poster: ‘Frank’ Starring Michael Fassbender With A Big Head
I really can’t wait to see it again. Stay tuned for a review coming up from Liz!
In select theaters August 15th!
Acclaimed Irish director Lenny Abrahamson follows up his award-winning films Adam & Paul, Garage, and What Richard Did with an offbeat comedy about a young wannabe musician, Jon (Domhnall Gleeson), who finds himself out of his depth when he joins an avant-garde pop band led by the mysterious and enigmatic Frank (Michael Fassbender), a musical genius who hides himself inside a large fake head, and his terrifying bandmate Clara (Maggie Gyllenhaal).
Written by Jon Ronson (The Men Who Stare At Goats) and Peter Straughan (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Men Who Stare At Goats), Frank is based on the memoir by Jon Ronson. It is a fictional story loosely inspired by Frank Sidebottom, the persona of cult musician and comedy legend Chris Sievey, as well as other outsider musicians like Daniel Johnston and Captain Beefheart. ‘The Congress’ Starring Robin Wright – On iTunes/On Demand July 24th
Love that Robin Wright is breaking out again and this looks very interesting with a great cast.
Drafthouse Films will release The Congress on iTunes/On Demand July 24, 2014, in select theaters August 29 2014, and in NY September 5, 2014.
Directed by Ari Folman
More than two decades after catapulting to stardom with The Princess Bride, an aging actress (Robin Wright, playing a version of herself) decides to take her final job: preserving her digital likeness for a future Hollywood. Through a deal brokered by her loyal, longtime agent (Harvey Keitel) and the head of Miramount Studios (Danny Huston), her alias will be controlled by the studio, and will star in any film they want with no restrictions. In return, she receives healthy compensation so she can care for her ailing son and her digitized character will stay forever young. Twenty years later, under the creative vision of the studio’s head animator (Jon Hamm), Wright’s digital double rises to immortal stardom. With her contract expiring, she is invited to take part in “The Congress” convention as she makes her comeback straight into the world of future fantasy cinema.
