David Lynch Leaves ‘Twin Peaks’ Revival on Showtime

twin peaks

A quiet Easter Sunday turned to breaking television news as David Lynch announced that he is leaving the “Twin Peaks” revival, scheduled to premiere on Showtime in 2016. A lot of conflicting news began to surface early Sunday as Twin Peaks Festival broke the rumor that Showtime had altogether cancelled the would be third season of the show, which was being written by co-creators Lynch and Mark Frost, but Lynch himself took to Facebook to clarify the situation:

“Dear Facebook Friends, Showtime did not pull the plug on Twin Peaks. After 1 year and 4 months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done. This weekend I started to call actors to let them know I would not be directing. Twin Peaks may still be very much alive at Showtime. I love the world of Twin Peaks and wish things could have worked out differently.”

Showtime has since responded with the following:

“We were saddened to read David Lynch’s statement today since we believed we were working towards solutions with David and his reps on the few remaining deal points. SHOWTIME also loves the world of Twin Peaks and we continue to hold out hope that we can bring it back in all its glory with both of its extraordinary creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost, at its helm.”

Scripts for the third season have been written by Frost and Lynch, but without Lynch directing, would anyone really be interested in the outcome? Only time will tell what will ultimately transpire with this situation, but one things for sure, if this is really all about money then I guess art truly has lost to the almighty dollar.

We will be monitoring this situation very closely, so keep it here for all your upcoming news

New ‘X-Files’ Show Nearing Greenlight At Fox

xfiles

TV Wise is reporting that a new X-Files series is closer than we think to becoming reality. Back in January we reported that Fox TV Group chairman Gary Newman announced that series creator Chris Carter was in talks with the network for a new run of the show and that stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny were onboard to return, now it appears a “limited run” of the series is close to a green light from Fox.

The report states:

Fox is close to giving an official green-light to a revival of their iconic science fiction series, which originally aired between 1993 and 2002. Per sources, the network has settled on a “short-stack” order for the revival and while the exact size of the order is yet-to-be-determined, I’m told it will be less than ten episodes.

Why such a short amount of episodes? Clearly the interest from the fans is still there:

The feeling was that it would be easier for the always in demand Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny to schedule a block of time to shoot the revival with a short order. The duo, who were always committed to doing more X-Files, have, sources say, agreed to reprise their roles. It is understood than an offer has also gone out to Mitch Pileggi. Other key cast members will also return.

A revival of the show has always been something I’ve hoped would happen given the amount of unfinished business the show has. Only time will tell if the resurgence is a novelty or has some substance to it.

We will keep updating this story as it transpires..keep it here for all your X-Files news!

‘Downton Abbey’ Season Six Will Be The End

DowntonAbbey640TV Line is reporting the news that every fan of the British drama feared would come one day, Downton Abbey Season 6 will be it’s last. Julian Fellowes’ hit period drama has become somewhat of a phenomenon winning over legions of fans these past five years and it’s loss will most definitely be devastating for its fanbase, but there is one season to go which will include eight episodes and a Christmas special much like the fifth season. The show will enter production on the final season this year with Fellowes again returning to pen the script. No doubt the creator is keen on sending his prized show out on a high note.

The decision to end Downton was rumored to be mainly due to cost. The cast’s contracts expire at the end of Season 6 and, with one or two possible exceptions, the actors are ready to move on.

Creator Juliian Fellowes is said to be creating a new drama for NBC entitled The Gilded Age. No more information is available at this time.
