Tight Lettuce

Based on a true story, Harrison Houde‘s Fantasia 2026 drama “Tight Lettuce” delves into generational trauma and the pitfalls of enabling with the best of intentions. Joel’s unwavering faith in his user father becomes an overwhelming barrier to growing as an individual. Joel hopes to record his father’s recovery from a 28-year heroin and fentanyl addiction. Instead, he captures the chaotic essence of a great man trapped in a seemingly endless cycle.

Dakota Daulby, who co-writes the screenplay with Houde, wears his heart on his sleeve through the constant disappointment. It is a beautifully vulnerable portrayal of a toxic, unconditional love. Emmanuel Bilodeau is an absolute freight train. It is a complex performance, as Bodo is self-aware and yet remains an addict in an active spiral. Between his highs and manic withdrawal-induced lows, Bilodeau delivers a tour de force. Their chemistry is the stuff of dreams.

Tight Lettuce highlights the ripple effects of drugs and the importance of separating life plans from the anchor of an addicted loved one. The credits feature real footage of Joel and Bodo. This choice makes the film more impactful in every way. This dark comedy captures the heart with infectious energy. The statistical likelihood that a loved one (only a few degrees separated) is struggling as we speak makes it a must-see. The reality of “If you don’t laugh, you’ll cry” screams with authenticity.
