Review: ‘Archive’ will make you question life and death decisions.

SYNOPSIS:2038: George Almore is working on a true human-equivalent AI. His latest prototype is almost ready. This sensitive phase is also the riskiest. Especially as he has a goal that must be hidden at all costs:being reunited with his dead wife.

Archive is a visual dream for fans of A.I. related storytelling. The production design team has taken pages from sci-fi films of old while also giving the audience a completely original aesthetic. It’s almost the birth of Westworld’s technology. You cannot miss the nods to Space Odessey, Alien, and Blade Runner.

Performances are incredibly grounded. The physical isolation mixed with grief makes for a somber and ominous setup. The nuanced relationships are brilliant to watch as they evolve. You will find yourself empathizing with all the A.I. entities. Theo James gives us every beat in total honesty. Stacy Martin is a superstar in 3 very different roles. Quite impressive.

There is a lot of intrigue in this script. Moral ambiguity is a huge part of the plot. Writer-director Gavin Rothery begs the question, “How far would you be willing to go for love?” There are clues dropped in the dialogue and recalls in scenes providing clever juxtaposition that will challenge the viewer. You cannot look away. Blink and you’ll miss something that might be more important than you realize. Brimming with emotional complexity, Archive challenges what life and death will continue to mean as technology upgrades in the future.

ARCHIVE is releasing on July 10, 2020 on Virtual Cinema Screenings, on Demand and Digital.

Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Alien’ to Rewrite the Franchise

Director Neill Blomkamp wants you to forget that Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection ever happened…literally. The director broke the internet last week when he announced he was making the next installment of the Alien franchise and that actress Sigourney Weaver was planning to reprise her role as Ellen Ripley, but Sky Movies spoke with the duo while both are promoting their new film Chappie and this is what the director had to say:

“I want this film to feel like it is literally the genetic sibling of ‘Alien,’” says the director.“So it’s ‘Alien,’ ‘Aliens’ and then this movie.”

Weaver went on to say this new film will give Ripley “A proper ending.”

Considering much of the concept art that surface a few months back, the new film will see the return of some familiar faces as Michael Biehn’s Corporal Dwayne Hicks is featured, but there is no confirmation that the gritty actor will return to reprise his role. Now, the director mentions there’s a three-decade age gap between Aliens and the new film, so there are questions as to whether this new chapter continues directly after the events of the 1986 film, but one things for certain, Blomkamp has the passion for this project to make Alien fans extremely happy.

You can check out some of the concept art below:

Neill Blomkamp is Officially Directing the Next ‘Alien’ Sequel!

alien-iso-main Neill Blomkamp sparked a nerdgasm last month when he posted some unofficial concept art for his vision of a new chapter in 20th Century Fox’s Alien franchise, but nothing as to the excitement that comes today as the District 9 director posted to his Instagram page that he would indeed be directing the next installment of the Alien saga.

20th Century Fox has since confirmed the news, and announced that it is, indeed, a sequel to the original Alien franchise and not the Prometheus sequel which is slated for a March 4, 2016 release.

As of press, no word on if Signourney Weaver will be returning to the franchise…but we can hope.

More as it becomes available

Um… So I think it’s officially my next film. #alien

Liz’s Review: ‘ALIEN OUTPOST’ is out of this world!

 alien

The notion that we are not alone in the world is one I thrive on, as a total nerd. Now if I were actually faced with E.T (and not Spielberg‘s cute, wrinkly guy) I would most likely run screaming in the opposite direction no matter how much I know X-Files has prepared me for a close encounter. In the new IFC Midnight action/sci-fi  ALIEN OUTPOST only the brave survive, if they’re lucky. Read More →
