Much to no ones surprise, Deadline is reporting that Ryan Reynolds is set to reprise his role as the Merc With A Mouth in 20th Century Fox’s upcoming Deadpool feature film. If you will recall, Reynolds played the role of Wade Wilson in Fox’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine which was widely jeered by comic book fans. Interest was sparked in the project earlier this year when test footage of Reynolds as Deadpool popped up on the internet.
Wilson, a smart-mouthed mercenary with terminal cancer, is subjected to a series of military experiments in an attempt to replicate Wolverine’s mutant healing factor, a procedure which ultimately allows Wilson to heal quickly, but leaves him severely scarred in exchange for this gift.
Production on the film is set to begin in March 2015 with a February 2016 target to open in theaters. Tim Miller is set to direct the film from a script written by Zombieland duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
The actor took to twitter late yesterday to confirm his involvement.
