An interesting tidbit surfaced yesterday from the Lionsgate shareholders teleconference when several investors grilled for answers as to what the studio’s plans are for future after the release of this year’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 hits theaters in November. After trying to assure investors that the company has a “strong slate” of films coming, CEO Jon Feltheimer dropped the bombshell and said, “we’re actively looking at some development and thinking about prequel and sequel possibilities” for the Hunger Games franchise. What?! As Hunger Games fans will know, the story created by Suzanne Collins ends with the completion of the Mockingjay films so….how is this possible? Will Suzanne Collins be involved? Will we see the return of Katniss and Peta?! Only time will tell, but one things for sure, this is exciting news!
Lionsgate also announced this morning that The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 will get an IMAX 3D release and that The Hunger Games: The Exhibition will open on July 1st at Discovery Times Square in New York City.
A lot for Hunger Games fans to be excited for!
