CBS has officially given the greenlight to the first season of Supergirl! A release date or number of episodes ordered has not been announced, but the pilot is expected to debut on the network later this year.

The show stars Melissa Benoist in the titular role along with Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Chyler Leigh as Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, Jeremy Jordan as Winslow “Winn” Schott, David Harewood as Hank Henshaw. Two former “supers”, Dean Cain and Helen Slater, have also been cast in mystery roles.

Twenty-four-year-old Kara Zor-El (Benoist), who was taken in by the Danvers family when she was 12 after being sent away from Krypton, must learn to embrace her powers after previously hiding them. The Danvers teach her to be careful with her powers, until she has to reveal them during an unexpected disaster, setting her on her journey of heroism.

The show is being produced by Berlanti Productions who also produce the hit DC Comics series Arrow and The Flash for The CW.
