TV Line is reporting the news that every fan of the British drama feared would come one day, Downton Abbey Season 6 will be it’s last. Julian Fellowes’ hit period drama has become somewhat of a phenomenon winning over legions of fans these past five years and it’s loss will most definitely be devastating for its fanbase, but there is one season to go which will include eight episodes and a Christmas special much like the fifth season. The show will enter production on the final season this year with Fellowes again returning to pen the script. No doubt the creator is keen on sending his prized show out on a high note.
The decision to end Downton was rumored to be mainly due to cost. The cast’s contracts expire at the end of Season 6 and, with one or two possible exceptions, the actors are ready to move on.
Creator Juliian Fellowes is said to be creating a new drama for NBC entitled The Gilded Age. No more information is available at this time.
