Melissa’s Movie of the Day: ‘The Thin Blue Line’ on Netflix Instant

Such a great choice. I would argue that this is the best documentary ever made. Everything Morris does in this film works – from the reenactments to the use of Philip Glass’ score. Few are the films that can change the way you feel about the medium – this one does that. It is a perfect example of the power film has. Morris is simply amazing and this film really capitalized on the promise of his first few films (Gates of Heaven and Vernon, Florida). I would easily list this film in my top ten favorite movies of all-time. It’s that damn good.

Liz’s Review: James Franco’s ‘Child of God’

I loved the book, but I just fathom Franco doing justice to the source material. I’ve never been a big fan of his and I am certainly curious to see this one. After seeing his AWFUL test footage that he shot for Blood Meridian, I don’t hold out much hope. I am willing to be surprised, however.
