Review: ‘Halloween Kills’ is all slice and no soul.

HALLOWEEN KILLS

Minutes after Laurie Strode (Curtis), her daughter Karen (Judy Greer) and granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) left masked monster Michael Myers caged and burning in Laurie’s basement, Laurie is rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, believing she finally killed her lifelong tormentor. But when Michael manages to free himself from Laurie’s trap, his ritual bloodbath resumes. As Laurie fights her pain and prepares to defend herself against him, she inspires all of Haddonfield to rise up against their unstoppable monster. The Strode women join a group of other survivors of Michael’s first rampage who decide to take matters into their own hands, forming a vigilante mob that sets out to hunt Michael down, once and for all. Evil dies tonight.

*Warning – this review contains light spoilers*

Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, and Jason Voorhees are foundational to the horror genre – when it comes to recipes for other killer movies, they are basically salt, pepper, and butter. It’s interesting that in this age of reboots and resets, there hasn’t been a new Freddy movie since 2010, or a Jason one since 2009. But while Freddy and Jason have stayed home sharpening their weapons, Michael’s kept slashing right through the decade.

In 2018, David Gordon Green’s quasi-reboot Halloween executed a welcome return to form for the series. 2018’s Halloween represented a direct sequel to John Carpenter’s original classic – it cut out bloated plot details and re-framed the film around the core battle between Myers and Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis). It brilliantly merged classic slasher tropes with new twists and underscored it all with a thoughtful feminist attitude anchored by Curtis’ full-throttle performance. The final images of the film were nearly perfect: Myers is cleverly caged within a burning house and the 3 generations of Strode women who disarmed and defeated him ride into the sunrise united and triumphant. They’ve literally taken away his knife, and figuratively taken back their lives.

Woof. That finale would have been tough for any sequel to top, but I was comforted by the fact that many of the same players that made 2018’s entry so successful had returned for 2021’s Halloween Kills (the 2nd entry in a planned trilogy, with Halloween Ends already penciled in for next year.) And, for the first 15 minutes, Halloween Kills is up to the challenge. It doesn’t take us back to Michael in that burning building but instead flashes back to the original night of carnage back in 1978. Here, Green mirrors much of the visual norms of Carpenter’s original film to great effect. It’s a shot of nostalgic adrenaline.

But the film eventually has to come back to that burning building, and Michael, of course, has to somehow escape and get back to killing. So, what’s the problem? Like my high-school physics teacher always told me, the problem’s not what you did, but more the way you did it.

To begin with, this film is grotesquely violent. I’m no shrinking violet (and the 2018 film is far from clean), but Halloween Kills goes to such an extreme that it appears out of character for Myers. Across 10 films, Michael Myers sure has sliced and diced, but he’s never truly been sadistic. In Halloween Kills, Green seems newly obsessed with the trauma the human body can take before it expires. Heads are smashed relentlessly into walls, eyes are constantly gouged out, and blood flows like water.  If I had a quarter for every shot of glass or wood impaling a character’s throat in Halloween Kills, I could buy myself a nice sandwich.

What I don’t understand about this tone shift is why Green would abandon the core tenants of what made his previous film so successful. Maybe he was bored by the previous film’s pacing? Maybe he fell victim to studio pressures to continue to amp things up for a sequel. Whatever the rationale, it was a mistake.

The second, more critical issue, is the framing. Laurie is hospitalized for nearly this entire film, and she and Michael don’t even interact throughout this entry. I can’t help but feel that this film is just treading water until we get to Laurie and Michael’s final confrontation in next year’s Halloween Ends. With Laurie on the sidelines, her daughter Karen (the always magnificent Judy Greer) and granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) have to do more of the plot’s heavy lifting. I’m always happy for Greer to get more screen-time, but this narrative choice splinters the power of that feminist trinity from the 2018 entry. You miss it, and I hope there’s a chance to get that back in 2022.

Halloween Kills has some good moments but ultimately fails to meaningfully advance the plot (or the stakes) of the franchise. Worse, it wastes the goodwill it so carefully built in 2018. I’ll still be first in line for Halloween Ends, but I’ll be scared sitting in that seat – and not for the right reasons.

Halloween Kills is now in theaters and on Paramount+

Universal Pictures, Miramax, Blumhouse Productions and Trancas International Films present Halloween Kills, co-starring Will Patton as Officer Frank Hawkins, Thomas Mann (Kong: Skull Island) and Anthony Michael Hall (The Dark Knight). The film is directed by David Gordon Green and produced by Malek Akkad, Jason Blum and Bill Block. The executive producers are John Carpenter, Jamie Lee Curtis, Danny McBride, David Gordon Green, and Ryan Freimann.

Review: Michael Shannon & Imogen Poots are trying hard to love each other in ‘Frank & Lola’

Gorgeously shot with emotionally-charged performances, Frank & Lola is written and directed by first-time feature director Matthew Ross and stars Michael Shannon and Imogen Poots in the title roles.

An unconventional love story, we start with the two in bed together. The two obviously did not have a romantic chemistry yet she was very comfortable with her body. As the story continues, we see that Frank and Lola are in a relationship, and live together. Fifteen years his junior, Imogen Poots gives a raw performance with very little makeup and often in disarray. Michael Shannon as Frank is his usual quiet intensity, so his moments of levity really stand out.

Rosanna Arquette makes an appearance as Lola’s mother, a woman who seems to view Lola as competition, rather than a daughter. Although it’s only one scene, it gives a glimpse into Lola’s world. Justin Long has a small role and although I generally love his work, I didn’t like the over-the-top of the character.

Frank and Lola are both severely flawed and as such, their actions often lead them in directions that cause problems. Writer/director Matthew Ross showcases this and does so with beautiful backdrops of Las Vegas and Paris. I enjoyed not knowing what would happen and rooting for these two. I hope you will too.

New trailer for ‘A Dog’s Purpose’ reminds us why we love our 4-legged friends

Dogs with people voices? Yep. I’ll totally watch that…when it’s on Netflix. Maybe. Probably.

DGS_Tsr1Sht24_rgbA DOG’S PURPOSE – In Theaters January 27, 2017

Based on the beloved bestselling novel by W. Bruce Cameron, A Dog’s Purpose, from director Lasse Hallström (The Cider House Rules, Dear John, The 100-Foot Journey), shares the soulful and surprising story of one devoted dog (voiced by Josh Gad) who finds the meaning of his own existence through the lives of the humans he teaches to laugh and love and that love him in return, give him home and even educating him using calming treats for dogs and many other cares.  The family film told from the dog’s perspective also stars Dennis Quaid, Peggy Lipton, Britt Robertson, K.J. Apa, Juilet Rylance, Luke Kirby, John Ortiz and Pooch Hall. We, as humans, don’t always look after our daily nutritional needs and more often than not need to rely on supplements to make sure our needs are met. The same theory applies to our pets, including our dogs. While bella and duke raw food for dogs claim to be nutritionally complete they offer a one size fits all approach. Things such as energy levels, illness, pregnancy, and age can affect the nutritional requirements of your dog. nutritional supplements for dogs Your dog may also be having skin or coat issues that need addressing. In cases such as these nutritional supplements may be the answer. But what are the best nutritional supplements for dogs?

CBD is beneficial to human health in different ways. It is a natural pain reliever and has anti-inflammatory properties, peanut butter cbd oil for dogs can help your dog in the same way it potentially helps humans feel calm, enjoy relaxation, and decrease inflammation.

Research has shown that CBD provides a better treatment, especially for patients with chronic pain who might need cbd dog treats for joint pain.

There is also evidence that suggest that the use of CBD can be very helpful for anyone who is trying to quit smoking and dealing with drug withdrawals. In a study, it was seen that smokers who had inhalers that had CBD tended to smoke less than what was usual for them and without any further craving for cigarettes. CBD could be a great treatment for persons with addiction disorders especially to opioids. Zach Attack Supplements offers CBD vape oil which is really benificial for the health.

There are many other medical conditions that are aided by CBD and they include epilepsy, LGA, Dravet syndrome, seizures and so on. More research is being conducted on the effects of CBD in the human body and the results are quite promising. The possibility of combating cancer and different anxiety disorders is also being looked at.

Seeing your pet in pain can greatly cause distress. Like humans, dogs suffer from arthritis and anxiety to epilepsy and cancer. While vets may recommend medications, they can affect your pet’s overall health in the long run. Thus, a healthier and more natural alternative may be in order: CBD oil.It is much better and safer to purchase a CBD oil that is GMO and gluten-free. These ingredients are not at all harmful. However, GMO increases risks of stomach problems and food allergies that could aggravate the condition of your dog. Meanwhile, gluten may also induce allergies.

It is important that you understand and recognize the signs and symptoms in your pet, so that you can quickly address health problems. For instance, dogs with allergies display symptoms of sneezing, facial pain, runny nose, watery eyes, and hives. Meanwhile, dogs with arthritis are reluctant to move, causing them to lag behind. Arthritis also causes pain, lameness, stiffness, and a sudden change in personality. Cancer, on the other hand, causes bloating, weight loss, abnormal discharge, bad odors, lethargy, and loss of appetite.

The last common illness of dogs is epilepsy. Epileptic dogs jerk, collapse, twitch, drool, chomp, or stiffen. They also make paddling motions with their legs. When dogs suffer from seizures, they may also pee or poop.It is a good thing that Holistapet CBD oil is now available for pet owners. Many fur parents have sworn to the effectiveness of CBD oil in treating the above-mentioned disorders, as well as abnormal cell growth, muscle spasms, nausea, and inflammation.

Review: The subtle & unexpected ‘By the Sea’ from Writer/Director Angelina Jolie Pitt

By the Sea poster

Let’s watch the trailer:

There are three different ways I can describe By the Sea, written, directed and starring Angelina Jolie Pitt opposite husband, Brad Pitt.

  1. Roland and Vanessa (Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Pitt) are a seasoned couple beginning a vacation at a beautiful hotel in the south of France in the 1970s. When a young newlywed couple moves in next door, it brings out a new side of Roland and Vanessa that might just save their marriage.
  2. Three sets of couples, in different stages of life, interact while on holiday in 1970s.
  3. A portrait of a couple trying to avoid the painful memories of their past.

Full disclosure, I love dramas. The American, with George Clooney, is one of my recent favorites. It’s slow and purposeful with beautiful cinematography. Not unlike By the Sea, that reveals slowly with a bit of mystery centering around Vanessa.

Jolie Pitt’s performance as Vanessa is cold, rigid and stoic. One of the only problems I had with the story is why the young, full of life, Lea (Melanie Laurent) would seek out her friendship.

What I particularly enjoyed was the lack of formula, leaving it completely without prediction, yet all actions were plausible. Angelina Jolie Pitt wrote and directed the film before she started directing, so she had no intention of starring in it or for it to be a commercial film. Most of the scenes take place in the hotel, and you really get the sense that there is a beautiful world waiting just outside. While many will be drawn to it because of the couple, this is not the picture of a perfect marriage.

Brad Pitt‘s character, Roland, is full of despair over being with the woman he loves, but not actually BEING with her. He has such painfully anguished expressions and empathy is clearly with him. The feeling of despair reminds me of another really good movie, Sunlight, with Naomi Watts and Matt Dillon which was oddly more uplifting.

The pace was very smooth and at 2 hours, it keeps you guessing so much that you forget the time. I very much enjoyed the journey and wouldn’t have a second thought to revisit. It’s in select theaters now and more to come.

New on Bluray/DVD – Kevin Bacon is both charming & smarmy in ‘Cop Car’

Cop Car bluray

A corrupt small-town sheriff is on the hunt for two runaway kids who took his car on a joy ride in Cop Car, an unnervingly funny thriller now available on Digital HD and On Demand, and debuting on Blu-rayTM and DVD on September 29, 2015, from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

When a pair of 10-year-olds find an abandoned cop car in a field and take it for a joyride, it seems like they could kill themselves at any moment. But things only get worse when the small-town sheriff goes looking for his missing car—and the illicit cargo he left in the trunk—and the kids find themselves at the center of a deadly game of cat and mouse they don’t understand. The only way out is to go as fast as their cop car can take them.

Last month, Liz reviewed Cop Car, and had this to say about Kevin Bacon.

Bacon never disappoints me with his uncanny ability to be both charming and smarmy all in one.

Universal Pictures through 2018 – The good, the bad & 15 sequels

Universal Studios logo

Universal announced their slate through 2018 and there’s lots to chat about. I’ll sum up each year, then give a more detailed view after.

2015 RELEASES

For the rest of this year, I’m pretty excited about the lineup, save for one. Can you guess which?

  • Straight Outta Compton – Not really my jam, but I’ve heard good things.
  • The Visit – M. Night, you’ll probably disappoint me, but I can’t help but give you another shot.
  • Everest – Epic mountain climbing and adventure. I’m in.
  • Legend – Tom Hardy times two? Yes, please.
  • Steve Jobs – YES, please erase Ashton Kutcher from my mind.
  • Crimson Peak – I’m not a horror fan in general, but Guillermo del Toro & Tom Hiddleston will put my but in the seat.
  • Jem and the Holograms – No. NO. If you’re gonna do this, do it right. Jem was a business woman by day and a rock star by night. This is just WRONG.
  • By the Sea – Jolie-Pitt will always get my vote.
  • Krampus – Horror Comedy with Adam Scott & Toni Collette
  • Sisters – Tina Fey & Amy Poehler. That’s it.

2016 RELEASES

Of the 21 movies announced, 7 are sequels or continuation of a series. Only one of them has real potential, then there’s 4 more that really could be great.

  • Ride Along 2 – The first was successful, people loved it. Alright, whatever.
  • My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 – Seriously? Let it go.
  • The Huntsman – Can it survive without Snow White? Totally could.
  • Neighbors 2 – I just don’t understand.
  • The Purge 3 – Eh. Another horror sequel. Not a surprise.
  • Untitled Next Bourne Chapter – Matt Damon is back. THANK GOD.
  • Ouija 2 – Again with the horror sequel. Blah.

Now for the good stuff.

  • The Huntsman – Prequel with the Charlize Theron & Chris Hemsworth with Emily Blunt. I’ll watch anything with Emily Blunt.
  • Top Secret Untitled Lonely Island Movie – Andy Samberg movie. YES.
  • Warcraft – Didn’t have an interest until I saw it was going to be directed by Duncan Jones, the director of Moon and Source Code.
  • The Secret Lives of Pets – Adorable. Adorable adorable adorable.

2017 RELEASES

Over half of the 2017 are sequels/series continuation and only 1 peaks my interest.

  • Fifty Shades Darker – The first wasn’t actually that bad. Not good, mind you, but not what all the hype was about.
  • The Mummy – No, not another Brenden Fraser, but it is being produced by a guy who worked on it. Is it a sequel? Who cares?
  • New Chapter in Fast & Furious Saga – IT WILL NEVER END.
  • Despicable 3 – So, Minons wasn’t Despicable 3? Could have fooled me.
  • Kong: Skull Island – Sequel? Kinda. With Tom Hiddleston? I’ll allow it.
  • Pitch Perfect 3 – Not really for me, but more power to them.
  • Pacific Rim 2 – Let’s hope there’s a story this time.

2018 RELEASES

Sequels, what else?

  • Fifty Shades Freed – There’s only 3 books. Whew.
  • Jurassic World Sequel – Alright, I suppose I’ll watch it. 🙂

In 1987, five young men, using brutally honest rhymes and hardcore beats, put their frustration and anger about life in the most dangerous place in America into the most powerful weapon they had: their music. Taking us back to where it all began, Straight Outta Compton tells the true story of how these cultural rebels—armed only with their lyrics, swagger, bravado and raw talent—stood up to the authorities that meant to keep them down and formed the world’s most dangerous group, N.W.A. Gary Gray (Friday, Set It Off, The Italian Job).  The drama is produced by original N.W.A members Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, who are joined by fellow producers Tomica Woods-Wright, Matt Alvarez, Gray and Scott Bernstein. The Secret Life of Pets
July 8, 2016

Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment announce THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS their fifth fully-animated feature-film collaboration.  Comedy superstars Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet and Kevin Hart will voice characters, and all three performers will make their animated feature-film debuts in the 3D comedy-adventure.  Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and his longtime collaborator Janet Healy will produce the film directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2), co-directed by Yarrow Cheney and written by Cinco Paul & Ken Daurio.

For one bustling Manhattan apartment building, the real day starts after the folks on two legs leave for work and school.  That’s when the pets of every stripe, fur and feather begin their own nine-to-five routine: hanging out with each other, trading humiliating stories about their owners, or auditioning adorable looks to get better snacks.  The building’s top dog, Max (voiced by Louis C.K.), a quick-witted terrier rescue who’s convinced he sits at the center of his owner’s universe, finds his pampered life rocked when she brings home Duke (Eric Stonestreet), a sloppy, massive mess of a mongrel with zero interpersonal skills.  When this reluctant canine duo finds themselves out on the mean streets of New York, they have to set aside their differences and unite against a fluffy-yet-cunning bunny named Snowball (Kevin Hart), who’s building an army of Ex-Pets abandoned by their owners and out to turn the tables on humanity…all before dinnertime.

Melissa’s Review: ‘Ted 2’ gives its audience (young & old) exactly what they want

Ted-2-poster-new

Like any sequel, Ted 2 reintroduces characters from the first movie minus John’s girlfriend/wife who he broke up with six months prior to Ted’s wedding to Tammy Lynn. Now the main plot is to “legalize Ted” so Ted and Tammy Lynn can have a baby. Again written, directed and starring Seth MacFarlane, it again co-stars his thunderbuddy, Mark Wahlberg.

The story is nothing special and serves more as a platform for jokes and semi-obscure movie references, but it excels at it. There are a few jokes that go on a bit long, but for the most part, it hits the mark. There is a notable cameo that’s immensely brilliant and completely unnecessary much like most of the scenes, actually.

Amanda Seyfried is a refreshing addition to the duo, as she’s young, immature and, of course, smokes pot. She’s also not versed in pop culture so it becomes a wealth of opportunity for the two to make fun of her. It’s quite brilliant, actually. You get the 20 year-old audience that wants pot and dick jokes and the 30-40 year-old audience that loves getting the old school movie references.

Yes, I enjoyed Ted the first go-around. It has just enough of a story surrounded by silly jokes about a teddy bear being real. It was amusing and fun, just like Ted 2. However, this time the story is more of an outline and there’s many more jokes to fill almost 2 hours.

With or Without Reading the Book, The Shocking Part About ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Is That We Liked It

Fifth Shades of Grey poster

Liz has read the book, but Melissa hasn’t. Here’s their individual takes on the movie they were totally surprised by.

Growing up, Melissa’s favorite destination was always the video store and would agonize over whether to watch something new or to rewatch a favorite. Things have not changed.

I did not read the books. Once the hype started, I pretty much dismissed them and the movie announced. I had a few friends read it, and did try to read it myself, but couldn’t get past a few pages. All I knew was that there’s a “plain,” innocent girl and there’s a rich guy who’s into BDSM. Oh, and people (mostly women) are going nuts over it and it’s already selling out screenings. I didn’t really pay much attention to it and had zero interest in watching, but then, I saw Jamie Dornan is Christian Grey. This piqued my interest because he’s in the Netflix series, The Fall, which I absolutely love. Ok, so I’ll watch Fifty Shades of Grey.

Here’s the big shock: it’s actually a very interesting story of a man and woman who surprisingly talk about their relationship intimacy. It’s just disguised as sex. This could have been shown at a film festival and I wouldn’t have even known the difference.

Although it’s a little drawn out and definitely crawls in the third act, it keeps your interest. The dialogue starts out a little flat, but quickly picks up once the focus is just on Anastasia and Christian. The music and score is works beautifully. The remix of “Crazy In Love” by Beyoncé is magnificent.

When it comes to the sex, it’s really nothing shocking. The most shocking parts are the conversations they have TALKING about the sex. If you want to see a shocking sex scene, just watch The Counselor and wait for Cameron Diaz to get on top of a car.

Yes. I read the damn book. In fact, I read the book in a book club at Yale School of Management’s Partners Club. I know, I know, I know, I sound like a cliche. We most definitely read it because of the hype. It could not be avoided, the hype I mean. BDSM and hot sexy “Mummy Porn”? I mean, is there really a question as to why we chose it? I don’t think so. To be honest, as I’m sure you’ve heard by now, the writing is atrocious. E.L. James began this “novel” as Twilight Fan fiction. I’m not sure if Christian Grey was meant to resemble Edward Cullen or not, though I do know that Robert Pattinson was James’ first pick to fill the role. Let’s just say that the entire book is from the inner monologue of Anastasia, a fresh faced college grad and virgin. Although, from the inner monologue presented by the author, you’d think she was 11. The book was a tough read in respect to the repetitive nature of James’ phrasing. If I had to read “My Inner Goddess” one more damn time, I don’t know if I ever would have finished. The infamous “tampon” scene alone made me toss my kindle across the bed. I didn’t pick the book back up for another three weeks; I hate to leave something unread simply on principle. Thankfully, that was not included in the film. Now, shall we launch into said version? I think we shall…

Truth be told, I actually REALLY liked the film. I don’t even care what you think about me after that statement. I liked it. Had there been zero hype, had I not ever heard of the book, had I not read any articles anywhere, I would be one happy audience member. The structure of the film versus the book is a vast improvement. We skip through the garbage and head straight into a courtship with a twist. It has a very tongue and cheek, rom-com formula in the beginning. Dakota Johnson is charming and funny, just the way I imagined Ana to be, without the gushing jargon of a pre-teen. Jamie Dornan is a pretty good Christian Grey. He grew on me as the film rolled on. His presence is strong and quiet and I think his interpretation is a thoroughly thought out character study. It is certainly a performance that would easily progress with two additional scripts. The chemistry is a tad tough to read, but not altogether unbelievable.

When you get to the heart of the screenplay, this story is about an intimate relationship between two people. Real moments, real issues, something for everyone to relate to. The sex scenes, while relatively intense, are no more “porny” than anything else we’ve seen before in film. Johnson is full frontal nude for a good amount of time. And, don’t worry, you get plenty of Dornan abs, and just enough rock hard bum shots a girl can handle in a span of two hours (*not enough, sorry not sorry*.) The struggle of power between a man and a woman, both emotionally and physically, is beautifully set out on screen. I applaud Sam Taylor-Johnson for a fantastic job in both shot layout and a keen hand in knowing what will play well with the intended audience. Also, I would be remiss if I did not high five the screenwriter, Kelly Marcel. She takes an average narrative and spins it into what would be considered a great little indie flick in any other world. Try your best to separate the book and the film. I think as a reader, you will be very pleased with Fifty Shades of Grey. As a movie goer, it will put a smile on your face. Take it at face value, and go from there. I, for one, walked away a happy book-clubber and a very happy audience member.

Melissa’s Top 5 J Lo Movies Better Than ‘The Boy Next Door’

I could write a review of The Boy Next Door. I could give it a rating. But I won’t. It’s a throwaway movie. I understand this is just a story, but it’s 2015. Aren’t we past the helpless woman thing? J Lo can do better. Let’s move past this. Here are 5 of her other movies that are my favorites.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~#5~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[imdb id=”tt0209958″ plot=”short”]
Creepy and weird, but it’s such a cool concept. Plus, Vincent D’Onofrio. He’s amazing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~#4~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

[imdb id=”tt0209475″ plot=”short”]

Matthew McConaughey made a few of these silly romantic comedies, and I think this one is my favorite. Judy Greer is also fantastic as the best friend.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~#3~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[imdb id=”tt0369735″ plot=”short”]
Jane Fonda and Wanda Sykes totally steal the show. So ridiculous and fun.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~#2~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

[imdb id=”tt0252076″ plot=”short”]

A modern fairy tale. My girlyness is at its peak.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~#1~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[imdb id=”tt0278435″ plot=”short”]
Absolutely perfect. J Lo kicks ass. This is what I wanted to see in The Boy Next Door.
NEW TRAILER: ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Has “B Movie” Written All Over It And Maybe That’s OK
Fifth Shades of Grey poster
I only have a basic familiarity Fifty Shades of Grey from all the hype after the book release, but I was curious to see what all the fuss is about so I decided to check out the trailer that debuted this morning.
It’s not nearly as cheesy as I had expected, but I’m not going to seek it out.
Will people go to the theaters to see this? Hmm… I’m going to guess that this will do much better on demand, but that remains to be seen.
Written by a woman, directed by a woman and screenplay by a woman. That’s what I’m excited about.
Since its release, the “Fifty Shades” trilogy has been translated in 52 languages worldwide and sold more than 90 million copies in e-book and print—making it one of the biggest and fastest-selling book series ever.
