Records & Red Lipstick: ‘Jem and the Holograms’ Sephora Truly Outrageous Liquid Lipstick Set

In honor of the Jem and the Holograms movie that is coming out tomorrow (which seems nothing like the tv show and breaks my heart to think of the wasted opportunity), I have another childhood memory in makeup form. Jem was my jam on Saturday mornings. I only wish the movie resembled what my memory of the show was. Oh well, you can’t win ’em all! However, this liquid lip set is pretty redeeming. I haven’t tried the Sephora liquid lipsticks yet, but I imagine from their reviews, that they might be the same formula. Let me know if you have tried both and know!

My only complaint here is the lack of Jem on the tubes. Okay, the lightening bolt is there, but why couldn’t they throw the Jem logo on there too? Boo hoo. However, this box they came in is so beautiful and sparkley! I might just keep these in there.
The set, which is $25 and exclusive to Sephora comes with five liquid lipsticks that are 0.083 oz each.

The colors are:
  • Fashion Fame (light pearl pink)
  • Like a Dream (mauve)
  • Music is Magic (bright pink)
  • To the Rescue (berry)
  • She’s Got the Power (dark purple)

Fashion Fame is pretty sheer with glitter. This is not really a liquid lipstick and more of a gloss. It was gritty due to the glitter, but I was really into it nonetheless.

I’ve already worn Like a Dream. It was comfortable on the lips, not too drying, and didn’t leave a dark ring on the lips as it wore down.

Music is Magic and To the Rescue are both really nice and opaque. Music is Magic is so bright, but I still see myself wearing it somewhere. These two and Like a Dream are all creamy and really remind me of the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams.

She’s Got the Power was a little disappointing. It’s more sheer, and goes on unevenly. It takes a few coats to get a truly opaque color, but it can work. This one has some pearl to it, which might explain why it isn’t as opaque as the other cream ones.

Overall, I am very happy with this set and excited to try it out more.
