David Ayer’s DC comics adaptation Suicide Squad has been targeting some high profile talent as of late, now TheWrap is reporting that Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) is being eyed to play The Joker. Previous reports had Leto linked to Marvel’s Doctor Strange but those rumors have all but dried up. If the rumors hold true this would be the Joker’s first appearance of the character since Heath Ledger’s Oscar winning portrayal in 2008’s The Dark Knight.
But that’s not all the Suicide Squad news!
Collider is reporting that Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) has joined the cast in the role of Harley Quinn! The addition of Harley Quinn makes sense since she’s been a member of the Suicide Squad since DC Comics relaunched with “The New 52” back in 2011. The character first made an appearance in Batman: The Animated Series as the Joker’s girlfriend/henchwoman, but Quinn has become a fan favorite over the years and has become an anti-hero of sorts.
Latino Review is reporting that the line-up for “Task Force X” in the upcoming film will be made up of the super strong Blockbuster, the self-replicating Multiplex, the speedster Jaculi, the illusion-casting Mindboggler, the original Captain Boomerang George Harkness, the animal mimicker Vixen, and Floyd Lawton aka Deadshot. No word on where Quinn and Joker will fit in so we shall need to wait and see.
Suicide Squad is currently set for release on August 5, 2016
